Background to the NEBOSH fire course
The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate is a relatively new NEBOSH award developed by the highly regarded health and safety accrediting body. Organisations and individuals throughout the world know of NEBOSH, the words alone are sunominous with excellence and respect. The NEBOSH fire qualification provide evidence of real achievement and employers worldwide use NEBOSH fire course as a benchmark when employing staff in any capacity in which fire safety is crtitical.
Studies have also shown that all NEBOSH training helps significantly in the development of a ‘safety culture’ in the workplace. So rest assured undertaking the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management course is a decision you will not regret and which your employer - your clients - or your employees will thank you for.
The NEBOSH fire course was designed to build on the success of the NEBOSH National General Certificate, which has become an industry benchmark for competence throughout the world. Many countries have statutory requirements that require the management of fire safety risks within the workplace. An essential component any legal requirement is adequate training. The NEBOSH fire course will provide that essential training and must be considered as a vital step in preventing a fire starting in your workplace.
Entry Requirments to the NEBOSH fire course
There are no formal entry requirments to the NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management but it should be noted that the examination includes a requirement to write a short report. Although this is covered as part of the NEBOSH fire course.
We can provide some guidance on materials to read before the NEBOSH fire course and discuss the content with you, however many people attend our NEBOSH fire courses without a detailed knowledge of health and safety. Enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard are as important as any prior knowledge. Experience is also very important, the experiences of our delegates are unique to each NEBOSH fire course, everyone can learn something from someone else!
NEBOSH fire Course Aim
The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate has been designed for managers, supervisors, employee representatives and those embarking on a role with fire safety responsibility. It is also suitable for qualified safety professionals who wish to build on their existing knowledge of fire safety and demonstrate a level of competence to enforcing authorities, insurers and employers.
Who Should Attend the NEBOSH fire course
The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate is aimed at anyone who has an interest in fire safety. Our delegates come from all backgrounds and professions.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005 requires that the ‘Responsible Person’ must appoint a sufficient number of competent persons to assist with undertaking the preventive and protective measures required by the RRFSO. The NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management is an excellent step to complying with the law.
Many delegates attend the NEBOSH fire course having been given responsibility for fire safety in the workplace, including the undertaking of fire risk assessments. In these circumstances the NEBOSH fire course is an excellent way of building a level of competence to enable the management and coordination of fire risk assessment.
Health and Safety Advisers/Managers can also benefit, as the NEBOSH fire course has a wider fire safety syllabus than the NEBOSH Diploma. For many Safety Advisers, including Chartered Professionals, fire safety is not an area that they have previously focused on and even where knowledge was previously good, they feel a reminder is worthwhile. So the NEBOSH fire course can help fill that training and competence gap. Many Chartered professionals attend the NEBOSH fire course to increase their competence and to demonstrate to external organisations such as Insurance Companies that they have a qualification specific to the undertaking of fire risk assessments.
The NEBOSH fire certificate course is also suitable for other professionals, such as engineers, architects, designers and scientists. As fire safety embraces all of these technical disciplines, everyone can benefit from the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate.
Fire Wardens and Marshalls can also gain considerably from undertaking this NEBOSH fire course. Whatever method of emergency evacuation used in the workplace, fire wardens play a vital part in ensuring the safety of every person entering a building in the event of a fire. Fire can devastate a company so higher level training for fire wardens will ensure that they appreciate the dangers posed by fire and have the competence and ability to appreciate the issues and act accordingly.
The NEBOSH fire course is also used by UK Fire Authorities, HM Prison Service and HM Armed Forces to raise a level of competence for staff who are required to advise on or undertake fire risk assessments.
Delegates also attend a NEBOSH fire course for many other reasons. Redundancy or the desire to change career direction are common reasons. Many ex-fire service personal wishing to embark on new careers outside the service attend our NEBOSH fire courses and benefit considerably as a result. Many go on to take the NEBOSH National General Certificate and embark on employments which require competence in the management of health and safety and fire safety.
We recognise peoples career aspirations, and will do our utmost to help people make the right choices, develop their CV’s and to work toward the higher NEBOSH qualifications that will help them gain a worthwhile, interesting, varied and financially beneficial career in fire and general health and safety.

The NEBOSH fire Course Venue
Holmewood Hall is an impressive Victorian mansion house, set among fourteen acres of parkland in the picturesque village of Holme in Cambridgeshire. The Hall is easy to find, just south of Peterborough off Junction 15 of the A1 with good road links north and south. Peterborough railway station is just 8 miles away situated on the East Coast mainline linking the north and south of the UK, with a 50-minute journey to London Kings Cross and Stanstead airport is only hours drive away.
The Hall provides an impressive backdrop for our NEBOSH courses, and a relaxing environment in which to learn. At almost every turn, you will find views over formal gardens with sweeping lawns and mature trees, leading on to a landscape of meadows and open countryside.

The Hall has an interesting history. The present day Hall was built by the distinguished Wells family, who made their fortune from shipbuilding in the 16th century, the Hall even gets a mention in Samuel Pepys’s Diary. The Hall also played a crucial role during the second world war, as the secret headquarters of the American Office of Strategic Services (the forerunner of the CIA) the Hall was used to train spies, who were dropped behind enemy lines to supply munitions. Unfortunately we do not train spies, but are more than happy to help you with your NEBOSH training!
The wildlife in the formal gardens delights our delegates. NEBOSH course groups often have fun during tea and lunch breaks, spotting green woodpeckers, watching deer graze and hedgehogs forage for food! Be warned after two weeks at the Hall you will be talking like Bill Oddie!
We have found that the environment in which people learn is critical to the success of our NEBOSH courses. Providing a stimulating learning environment where people are comfortable, relaxed and at ease with their surroundings encourages mindsets to evolve.
We also believe you should be well fed! The Hall provides a wonderful two course hot and cold sit down lunch, with lots of healthy options catering for all tastes and dietary requirements. Unfortunately, or perhaps not! There are always some rather tempting deserts on offer; will power will have to prevail for 2 weeks! The refreshments are varied and plentiful. Internet access is also available to keep you in touch with the outside world. We know you will enjoy every aspect of your experience. Our NEBOSH course pass rates and delegate feed-back reflect the attention we pay to ensuring your comfort during the course.
